The Christmas Story…it’s really about the donkey.

10 Dec

Once Dally gets something in her head, you will never get it out. For over a year she refused to accept the number two in her life. She skipped it every single time. She could add and subtract. As long as the answer didn’t involve the number two. She even told her Dad that she was only doing it to make Mommy look like she’s going to explode.

Yep, I have my hands full.

Well, Dally’s newest obsession is the Christmas story. Apparently, I’ve been telling it wrong. She’s very upset with me.

You see, it isn’t about the people at all, it’s about

the donkey.

Yes. Not baby Jesus. Not Mommy Mary. Not even about the angels or wise men or sheep.

It is about the injustices faced by one little poor donkey.

You see, according to Dally, a long time ago there lived a little donkey. He was very nice and liked to eat carrots. He had a good life in a far away fairy land. (She’s four, so let’s go with it.)

One day, these people came and made him carry this really big lady all the way to town. His back hurt.

When they got there, instead of letting him go to bed in a nice warm barn, they took his bed for themselves.

And they stayed up all night long, so he didn’t get any sleep.

The next morning, he went to his feed thing to get some breakfast. And do you know what was there? A baby. And donkey’s don’t eat babies. So he didn’t get anything to eat.

Then some really well dressed people came and gave the baby presents. And they didn’t bring the donkey anything.

And that’s why we give gifts at Christmas. Because it’s nice and we need to make everyone feel good by giving them gifts. Even the donkeys. (Hmmm, I can actually think of a few donkeys that I have to buy gifts for…)

This is me. Banging my head against the wall. Every time I try to tell the story correctly, she gets angry with me. Because it’s not about the baby. It’s really about the donkey. Mooommmyyy…..let me tell you about the donkey.

What an outside-of-the-box thinker! I think my next post will be special for you and Dally! 🙂

Ha! Like mother, like daughter. You’re the one that crawled backwards and made up words.

I love that Dally looks out for those that are usually forgotten. This nearly made me cry. This story reminds us that lots of animals are ignored (and abused) and that there are those out there that see this and stand up for them! You have a very smart little lady!
